Margaret Sue (Steinle) Muennink, age 85, of Hondo, Texas, passed away April 9, 2017. She was born November 25, 1931, in Somerset, Texas, the youngest of three children of Harry and Mildred (McMaster) Steinle. Margaret was very proud of her German and Scottish/Irish heritage.

After attending St. Henry's Catholic School in San Antonio, as well as Somerset schools, Margaret graduated from Somerset High School at the young age of 16. One of her fondest memories of her high school years was being selected Duchess of the Poteet Strawberry Festival.

Margaret continued her education at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos (now Texas State), where she graduated with a Degree in Education.

Her first teaching position was in Hondo ISD, where she remained a dedicated teacher of multiple generations of Hondo families for 40 years, most of those years teaching 3rd grade at Meyer Elementary.

Soon after moving to Hondo, she met John H. ("Johnny") Muennink to whom she was married on February 5, 1953. They were blessed with 2 children, Greg and Melissa, and later with 5 grand-children, who became the focus and joy of their lives.

Travels to interior Mexico, as well as the Annual 4th of July Family Celebrations in Rockport, TX ("the coast"), were treasured family traditions.

Her grand-children will always remember their "Gee-Gee" for hosting the most wonderful Annual Holiday Celebrations - homemade tamale dinners every Christmas Eve (always with a fun and special gift exchange), traditional Thanksgiving dinners every year without fail, and such fun Easter-Egg Hunts and Easter "outings".

Also, Gee-Gee never missed any of her grand-children's special occasions & activities, and she enjoyed every minute of them immensely.

Her Catholic faith was very important to her. She was a strong believer in prayer and believed that small miracles happened every day. Her Rosary went everywhere with her, especially in her final years. During her earlier retirement years she was proud to serve her church, St. John's, in various capacities, including the Altar Society and the Bereavement Committee.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, John H. Muennink; as well as brother, Harry R. Steinle; brother-in-law, Hearol Veteto; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Diane (Muennink) & Gen. Jerome O'Malley, and Sue & Tom Muennink.

Margaret is survived by one son, Greg Muennink & wife Sandy of Hondo; one daughter, Melissa Muennink Bohmfalk of Austin; five grandchildren, John G. Muennink (wife-Jessica), Houston; Rachel Muennink, Austin; Sarah Harrell (husband-Brad), Austin; Meredith Fain (husband-Clay), New York City; Luke Bohmfalk, Austin; as well as 2 great-grandchildren, Eleanor Harrell, Austin; and Georgia Fain, New York City.

She is also survived by her dear sister, Maxine (Steinle) Veteto, and sister-in-law, Pat Steinle, as well as many special nieces and nephews.

Rosary and Funeral Mass were held at St. John's Catholic Church, followed by interment at the Hondo Cemetery on April 12, 2017.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Catholic Church or to the charity of your choice.
