Kenneth W. Owens, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away at his home at Bandera, passed away Friday, May 19, 2017, surrounded by his family and friends. He was 87.

He was born Feb. 1, 1930, to Gomer Lee and Carmen Gladys Watson Owens at their farm in Milam County, where he lived with his three brothers and three sisters until he graduated from Lexington High School.

With a brave and giving heart, Kenneth joined the U.S. Army and was honored ot serve as a radio operator with the Penslyvania 28th Infantry Division during their campaign in Germany. He remained committed to his community through his volunteer work as a volunteer fireman and Emergency Medical Technician. He shared his strong faith in God through his involvement in the prioson outreach ministeries at the TDCJ Torres Unit.

Kenneth's leagacy as a Christian husband and father awed and inspired those around him. He married the love of his life, LoReta Faye Capps, and spent 64 happy years with her, raising a family that aspired to live by his example.

He was a former manager of Alamo Lumber Company in Hondo. As a musician and singer, he participated in the Hondo Hootenanny and enjoyed entertaining at local nursing homes. He filled his life with music, spending many happy hours playing his guitar and was always glad to share his gifts with those who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Benny Owens, Morris "Pepper" Owens, Maxine Rawls and Ronald Winton Owens; and in-laws, Ernestine Owens, Woodrow Burgess and Charles Rawls.

He is survived by his wife, LoReta; sons, Kenneth Michael Owens of West Texas and Joel David (Teresa) Owens of Merkel; daughters, Patti Lynn (Wesley) Scott and Julie Ann Browning, all of Hondo, and Jeanie (Curtis) Haby of Kerrville; 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Beth Burgess of Forest Grove and Rebecca Wright of Austin; and sisters-in-law, JoAnn Owens and Alice Owens.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 22, at the Guinn-Horger Chapel, Hondo.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 23, 10 a.m., at the Hondo Church of Christ. Interment will be at Forest Grove Cemetery in Rockdale, TX.
